A little cage survey....

LinsZoo Oct 06, 2003 11:02 PM

Since Marley is doing so well I am ready to start his cage (and the sunroom will soon be too cold for him)I have several ideas in mind but I am stuck on one spot. What are your iggies 'walls' made from? Glass, plexiglass, screening and if some kind of screen what kind? If you had it to do all over again would you use the same materials?
Thank you~

i built my iguana cage walls out of OBC board. the real thin stuff. but the front is made out of plexi-glass. he really likes it and the temp stays at about 95 and humidity is at about 80%

Thank you JS! But what is OBC board?
I was thinking that Marley would not be able to hear things as well if he was encased by plexiglass. And since he would be in a short enclosure (he cannot climb) I thought that heating would not be as much of an issue as a tall cage. I was thinking of some kind of curtains to drop down at night to keep it nice and dark and retain some heat?
Thank you for your input!

OBC board is kinda like panlin board for your walls. its cheap and thin. i drilled holes in the plexi-glass. but my is 7' tall so it takes a bit more to heat. but my cage all together only costed me about 90.00 to build.

Kam's cage is made of very thin wood sandwhiching blue styrofoam. the front is plexiglass. I would use these materials agian. You can see a pict of her home on the link.

Could U send me (or post) basic plans for this
I need to creat a Dome of a group of Arboreal Lizards called Horned Mountain Dragons
they need a Min of 4' height (prefer 6 or more)
they also need running water and dirt substrate (and that holds the plants trees for them to climb)
so I do not think I can buy one premade, and I M not all that handy (although I can swing a hammer, and cut a mostly straight line)
Here is a pic of the 3 little ones I have in a 30 Gal hex tall
They will outgrow it FAST
I also have an adult about to drop some eggs
TIA
