John,
would you say the Blonds are a "type" of lavender albino?

I mean it is a cool name. but it is still a lav, no?

Just like the Peanut butter is a type of "hypo". But the hypo name was already taken. So, then the Peanut butter turned out to be something extra special because it shared an allele with the t negative (true albino) to produce "Jellies" in the first generation of eggs.

I just always wondered why in the Cal king complex people decided to get away from teh cornsake names which kinda paved the way for proper gentic names. Take the "Ghost" in Cal kings for instance..they are not a double recessive (Hypo x Axanthic or Hypo x anery) as other known "Ghosts> But instead they are just a single recessive gene. Why is it so hard for single traits to be names exactly what they are.

BTW, back when the Peanut butter was names it should hav been hypo type II. But forum memeber back then voted the name peanut butter. I am glad it stuck because of its unusual gentics which sets it apart and made the whole Flordia morph popular.

Still most people can't wrap their heads around what the Peanut butter does when bred to a T neg.. or what a Jelly does. They just can't wrap their minds around what it can do when bred into othe traits.. ESPECIALLY multiple traits like a Whitesied Ghost or a Snow or Ghost..The possibilities of the jelly trait spillting 3-ways onto all teh different combos is crazy. Which makes me glad it is not called just a hypo type II. bUt it would have been the approriate name.

So how did the Blond name come up and why? WHo named it that? And is it more a line trait or is the lavender really a different lavender? Has anyone bred them into othe rtraits? I am sure they have by now. just i never here from anyone of doing this and the only perosn we can really refer to is Kerby. But i am sure others must have bred the Bond to other cal king traits??/ If so what hapened to teh offspring? Were they any different looking from say a lavender from a different trait? 9I am assuming the Blond is a different "trait" and not just a "line"

Actually the Blue Eyed Blonde is different than the lavenders and the 3 different types of hypomelanistics. I believe them to be Tpositive, but they are just names we give them and all....LOL

They have been bred to lavs and at least one type of hypo I know of and they produced normal, double het babies. I want to breed them into the Purple Passions and the Chocolate Bananas while still keeping an Elfin Forest locality line pure at the same time.

They are called Blue Eyed Blondes because they have a blue iris and a ruby red pupil. All lavenders and 2 of the 3 hypos have ruby red eyes (both pupil and iris). The Bill Brant hypos that some people call ghost or anery have black eyes. The Palomar Ghost is a single recessive and I agree the name Ghost isn't reflective of its genetics.

As far as the name goes I am not sure who named them first. Merker had some El Dorado hypos he called blondes back in the day but these Elfin Forest BEBs are much lighter. The first I remember calling them Blue Eyed Blondes was Tim Gebhardt at Vivid but I am not sure if he "coined" the name or not.....

Check out the eye shot here on a striped BEB I got from Tim years ago.....

I would think Dr. Bechtel would put them in the lavender catagory. Just because that is what thet look like to me.

i know they are not the same lav (being allelic) I just meant maybe they are a different type of lav. Maybe a lav type VI? lol.

They are a type of lavender T positive, but not compatible to other lavenders. Their iris also becomes more blue with age unlike other lavenders.

BTW, nice kings John. Glad we finally have someone to go to for offspring.
-----

Aaron Mar 07, 2013 06:58 PM

Normal kings from the near the Elfin Forest area sometimes have blue iris'.

RossPadilla Mar 07, 2013 09:45 PM

I'm pointing that out, because supposedly normal lavenders don't have that.

so has Kerby ever bred this into any of his stock?

Or he just never got a hold of one?

Kerby... Mar 07, 2013 02:23 PM

I have a female BEB that I got from VIVID in 2002. I will try and breed her to a Ghost (dark phase) this year.....thus producing double hets. Hope she has good eggs.

Bluerosy Mar 07, 2013 03:03 PM

I know this is none of my business kerby and you know so much more than i do .

but i wish you would not breed one to a ghost. i just don't like the ghost trait to much. i think it kinda cheapens anything it was bred into. Kinda like in Florida kings it is the Mosaic trait. Which is a fantastic trait. But for some reason it cheapens whatever it is bred to to make multi homos. It is like the trait never got a good start. I beleive teh same with teh ghost in Cal kings. I wish you would breed the Blue eyed to something else..preferably something multi homo with zero Ghost. The GFhost just seems to darken and when combined to othe rtraits it really has done nothing to surprise me. Just my observations and opinion.

Again..Just MY opinion, mind you. I may be way way off base here.

Rainer, I respect your opinion. But I have downsized quite a bit and I have 13 breeder males to choose from. I want to be able to produce more BEBs from the double hets that I produce.

So what would you choose to breed to the BEB?

Kerby...

Here are my 13 choices:

M-34 Hypomelanistic
M-41 (triple het for Ghost, Hypomelanistic, Albino)
m-43 (triple het for Lavender, Albino, Hypermelanistic)
M-48 (double het for Lavender, Hypermelanistic)
m-52 (triple het for Ghost, Hypomelanistic, Albino)
M-54 (triple het for Ghost, Hypomelanistic, Albino)
M-55 (double het for Ghost, Hypomelanistic)
m-60 (double het for Ghost, Lavender)
m-62 CASPER Ghost - displaying both Albino and Ghost
M-63 Ghost (dark phase)
M-64 Ghost (light phase)
M-65 CORAL Ghost - displaying both Ghost and Hypomelanistic
M-66 Blizzard - displaying both Albino and Hypermelanistic at the same time.

well you don't give me many choices there. It is either something with ghost or hets. Breeding a het to it be to much of a long shot . . So i would only breed it to a double or triple homo.

i would go with the visual double homo. i would use the Blizzard( no surprise there)

WHo knows,,. you might get a surprise from that. With the Ghost you will get just more of what looks similar to what you produced already.

With the Blizzard you are taking a chance but sometimes those wildcards can pop out something crazy when you combine either the albino or hypermalanistic to it. Or both!

Remember the plain-jane albino can do a lot and is far prettier than the ghost trait IMO. It is just so common that people overlook it these days.

Kerby... Mar 07, 2013 04:42 PM

So far I have produced 3 different new morphs with the Ghost gene.

A PINK PEARL Ghost cal king is displaying both the Ghost and Lavender gene at the same time.

A CORAL Ghost cal king is displaying both the Ghost and Hypomelanistic gene at the same time.

A CASPER Ghost cal king is displaying both the Ghost and Albino gene at the same time.

I still want to combine the Blue Eyed Blond with the Ghost gene and also the Hypermelanistic gene. Then later one that shows 3 different genes at the same time and then one that shows 4 different genes at the same time.

The pink pearl, coral ghost, and ghost are some of the most beautiful california kings I've seen.

I'd like to see a Ghost/aberrant hypermel double homo just to see what kind of patterns you could get.

Jlassiter Mar 07, 2013 10:05 PM

I want a ghost to breed it into the darker hypo/lavender lines instead of that GVS line.

Or a the BEB Ghost or Purple Passion Ghost.....

BTW...I am picking up some El Dorado Merker Hypos soon.......Tracked a few down...

Yeah....3.1
An adult male from Gerold. Another adult male from Shannon. And a pair of 2010s that are from a Merker male and Shannon's old female....they are near breeder size too.

Heck...I think all I need are some Palomar ghosts now....Maybe I will hit Kerby up for real this year....LOL

But I'd like to get into some more locale specific ones as well one day.

Bluerosy Mar 08, 2013 10:14 AM

why don't you get som o th multi homo Palomars Kerby is selling right now.

i think the coral or casper would be better to mak very egg diferent wehn you breed the het back togther. Plus you want to consider stepping up te time it takes to make these. By using teh multi hets you are keeping up with the Jonses (so to speak). I would think getting last eyars babies like this or at least one will put you ahead of just suing a regual single trait Palomar Ghost.

Get the Casper which i think is superior gentically for a breeding project like yours.

Actually Rainer I don't want to keep up with the Joneses.....
I will actually be working with a couple o things that Kerby isn't....

I can utilize the dark eyed purple passion, El Dorado hypos and the BB Hypos to produce more lavender colored morphs unlike Kerby's. That hypo gene from his GVS animal is almost amel looking to me....lol. More pink than purple.

But I do want the Palomar ghost gene to throw in the mix......but I think I want some without that GVS hypo gene.......unless its compatible with any other type of hypos...... Then I need a couple of Ross's hypos he's going to produce this year!

Yes I understand you. But you still have the Palomar trait in muti homozygot animals. And in a few years. Who knowS?.. your mind might change again..even you.

All a mutli visual homozygot does is give you more options.
