About closed minds and such

FR Mar 07, 2013 11:17 AM

G'day you all.

It was stated below that I have a closed mind. THat got me thinking. And after some thought, its not me with a closed mind. Well, not just me.

It was also stated that some here do not understand me or at least what I am saying. That appears to be very true. And there is reason.

With the above mentioned(stated) I had an epiphany. And that was, those who are very success here, base their knowledge on their success and others success in captivity. Their seem to be believers in keepers and keeper information. WHich is not where I come from, so that causes a wall, we come from different directions.

I on the otherhand, have always based my understanding on reptiles/in this case, snakes, from the animals in nature. Not what they do in captivity. Even when I am highly successful in captivity. Its just captivity, mine or others. Which to me is always secondary to nature. A hognose is a natural animal, what is it?

I have always used captivity to test wild reptile abilities. Not to determine what they are, or label them in some way. Or limit them in some way. Captivity can only test their natural abilities. Not label them. I would think captivity could be used to express their natural abilities. And yes, even morphs are a small part of what is natural to them.

So I understand why you have problems with me. I am coming from a totally different direction then you seem to be.

I ask questions and all I get is attacked on a personal level. Thats fine, its what humans do. Whats of interest is, nothing is said about the animals. We are humans and humans bicker argue, fight and play silly games. Its part of the human condition. But what about the animals? That is my interest, can anyone help with that. I already know me. I am totally amazed that none of you want to talk about the animals. You somehow think you have to tell me about me. or others about me. As if I am the subject and not the hognose.

I came here with the hopes of learning about hognose snakes, and all I get is the human condition. Nothing about the animals, nothing at all. Nothing about hognose.

As some of you know, I am experienced with many reptile species, having produced many for generations, torts, turtles, lizards and snakes of many kinds. But I am new to hogs. Do any of you know anything about hognose snakes. Not morphs, not genetics, about hognose snakes? And please, nothing wrong with morphs or genetics.

I asked, does anyone have cages that reflect why a hognose is a hognose and not just another colubrid??? Not a single answer.

Rack systems, I have nothing against them either, they are just not good at telling us about particular species, they are indeed generic.

So again I ask, does anyone have information on hognose, not any colubrid, hognose. Not a snake, a "hognose snake".

As mentioned, I am looking at them in the field, but again, I am new. I have seen less then 100 in a couple of months. I watched them, tracked them, taken some data.

About all I can say is, they like to move in the day, when they do move, they spend a very short time on the surface, usually less then an hour, more like 20 minutes. They crawl really fast for a stubby snake. And they consume a varity of prey items. They seem to move from point A to point B and do so in a direct line. They tend to live in groups/colonies, and move to closeby resources when they become available. They use other animals burrows as well as their own and in combination, their own burrows within other animal burrows.

They tend to go cryptic when seen, but if they are near a burrow or an escape route, can indeed bolt quickly. Man was I surprised how fast they can go. They at times will use water, that is crawl or swim in shallow water. And the males follow their lady, EVERYWHERE and relentlessly.

So there you have it, thats about all I know, or can remember at this time. Can nayone add to this. Oh, they are active in temps from just about freezing to the mid to hight ninties. Thanks again.

And no, I am not going away, as long as I have this hognose disease.

Yeah, I am guessing there were many of these located instead of snakes during the so-called "data collecting" process. A guy can get real hungry out there in the Arizona desert.

Your posts only tell about you and your insecurities. If you were happy with your self, you would not care anything about what I say. But you do! Which is why you cannot stay away from my posts

When you compare that nesting box that your using to HOW they really know how to nest, there is a difference. That difference is best noticed, when you have problems with CLEAR boxes. And its fun to see animals do what they actually evolve to do, not what you force them to do. And its not HARD to do. Just a little more work.

If you have no interest in that, then good. No one is forcing you to actually do something for the animal and not just for you.

In the end, you do make it about you and YOU make it about me. THe problem is, I do not make it about me, I make it about the animals, I am just a normal human. With the possible exception that I do feel sorry for animals kept in clear plastic boxes and forced to do what some keeper wants.

As I said many times, if you do not care about the animals, then fine, keep doing what your doing. But if your interested in seeing something about hogs being hognose snakes and not just morph producers, then read my posts. If not, don't, how simple is that? Again, i have nothing against being morph producers, but they are HOGNOSE first and foremost.

And Doug, your posts are about all your capable of. Keep it up. Oh wait, thats all you can do so of course you will keep it up. Best wishes fellas.
