Daytona a few years back

Nokturnel Tom Mar 14, 2013 06:09 PM

I did well enough to go back again and again being a vendor at Daytona... but I remember the partying more than anything. I have to dig up a few pics... yes, security came. More than once I think?
Nothing like having a few hundred snakes in a hotel room full of people who had not let it rip in a while.
No way I intend to go this year but it is fun to think back.
One of the BEST parties was during Hurricaine Charley.... man we rocked the Hilton.... good times... and snakes everywhere
just sayin...

I didn't make that one. I was busy catching bass after bass almost every single cast in Ft. Pierce, Florida when Charley was coming through to the southwest of the state. Something about the plummeting barometer was making the bass go absolutely CRAZY for food right then. I am guessing that they could sense that they wouldn't be eating anything for a while when the conditions got worse there, so they ate everything in sight while the going was good. Man, we must have caught WELL over a hundred plus bass that day!..

Doug, I bet that would have rocked to have been there, catching fish with ya!!!!!!!!!

You got any pics of that day?

That year, if I am thinking right, 2004, that Daytona rocked. I picked up some awesome snakes that year!!! All pits, of course.

I think we may have taken a pic or two of a few we kept to fry up that day. We always let most of them go and just keep a few to keep the lake healthy and so we can continue to catch them there. I caught a huge 3 lb. Oscar in the same lake one day.

I kid you not,...that lunker "aquarium fish" was one of the tastiest fish I've ever fried up!, and I've caught TONS of different kinds of revered gamefish over the years. Ask Ross Padilla. I showed him some MONSTER-SIZED fish I've caught in the past, like behemoth 45 inch snook, etc.....

LOL!!...Gerard, I swear..it was one of the whitest, flakiest, non-"fishy", best tasting fish filets I have probably ever eaten. And you already know I have caught and eaten LOTS of different gamefish just like you have. I know it sounds funny as heck and all,..but seriously, it was probably as good or better than snapper, snook, catfish, grouper, or any other kind. And you wouldn't BELIEVE how good the thing fought on light tackle either...felt like some of the much bigger Largemouths we were catching!..HAHAA!!

Yeah, I guess fried dog poop would probably taste good, too. I know you have eaten Snook and there's no way it taste better than that. If you say yes I'm coming over with both to do a experiment.

All I know is that it looked and tasted just as good as the other fish nuggets I prepared and fried up with it. Two other friends had it too and liked it and couldn't tell the difference either.

Hard to beat snook though, as you already said..

I never fry fish, it's nasty. You come to Florida and I will hook it up with some stuff you won't believe.

Sounds like a deal and I can and will return the favor if you come down here to the 3rd coast of Texas....LOL

BBQ Reds on the halfshell, Speckled Trout Veracruz style, Gulf Shrimp 1000 different ways and good ole Broiled Flounder and soft shell crab......At least, that is what I grew up on...Not so much the off shore stuff but I love all seafood (from the SALT water)......lol

I live on the "Laguna Madre" between Corpus Christi Bay and Baffin Bay...Near Oso Bay......Great Flats EVERYWHERE.

I grew up in Rockport and 7 of my classmates became guide fisherman....Wish I would've went that route....LOL

I've only fished from Port Lavaca to Brownsville (Boca Chica)....
