The Lady Has Her Preferences!

pyromaniac Mar 20, 2013 06:06 PM

Zunchara, my biggest female and little Zane, her preferred mate locking up this morning. She was in the trio cage with Mazar but seemed restless and when I tried feeding her, that is not what she wanted. She wanted her lover from last year! Once I put them together they got down to business and now she seems quite content. I don't know why she wasn't satisfied with Mazar, but I didn't want to lose out on her getting gravid, hence Zane again.

There is nothing wrong with her cage mate Mazar; he always sires healthy babies with Dotz, the other female of that cage trio. This fall when brumation starts I will just go ahead and put her permanently with Zane.

Not the mindless animals we think sometimes willing to mate with anything? Interesting...

Wow, bonding you say? hahahahahaha, hmmmmm been talking about this for years, but not many look at their animals close enough to actually see it. Congrats, you do look close enough.

Sadly, the bound/choice is preferred early in her cycle. Late in her cycle, she will copulate with anything(survival), anything means just about anything.

Like you observed, early in their cycle, they indeed pick the mate they want. Congrats and please don't say, bond or bonded or any of that, these are mindless, choiceless, automatic creatures that only react to instint. Sorry, for that last part, but its what you guys tell me all the time. Again, great observation. best wishes.

Last year I loaned my male Mazar out to a fellow pyro fancier. Mazar liked one of my friend's females but refused the other female even though there was nothing obviously amiss with her (she became gravid by a different male in the same time frame so it was not wrong timing) So Mazar had his preferences, too. He always mates with Dotz but the chemistry between him and Zunchara is just not happening.

I think people are arrogant about other animals having feelings and thoughts.
