Looking for help with a zoo donation

tsusnakeguy Mar 22, 2013 09:16 PM

Hi, I am looking for someone that is willing to help me out. I use to be the reptile keeper for the Alexandria Zoo in Alexandria, LA. I am now a high school biology teacher but still love the zoo and want to do anything to help it. It is an amazing little zoo and also an AZA accredited zoo. They are currently building a great new South America portion of the zoo. They are going to be building a fish and herp building. They have asked me if I have any Emerald, Amazon or Annulated Tree boas to donate and unfortunately I do not. I am looking to see if there is anyone out there that has and South American tree boas that they would be willing to donate to the zoo for their new Reptile building. They are having trouble finding any available ones through their zoo sources. I would appreciate any help with this that anyone could give me. Just respond on here or shoot me a message on here. Thank you very much for your help.

I lived in Tioga for many years and agree that is probably the best little zoo I've ever been to. The irony I find here is that most AZA members view private reptile/exotic animal owners as irresponsible and uninformed individuals and here they are asking us again to help them out. Do they stand up for us when we could use such powerful lobbying in our fight to keep these animals? No they don't. You may find it very difficult for any private herper to give animals to a zoo.

So I am guessing you don't live around here anymore? Yea I disagree sometimes with zoos idea of exotics as pets but when you work at one and so many people either want to give them to you because they don't want them anymore or they just let them go, you start to feel the best way to educate people is to tell them not to buy them. But this zoo really deserves the help. The late director was a great man and I would do anything to help the Alexandria Zoo stay a great little zoo.
