Ball Python breeder prices??

qtkitty Oct 07, 2003 08:26 AM

I know this is a very odd question, but i am curious as to what a good price for a sexed hatchling having already eaten food would cost. Also the cost of a pair f/m. As i have read all these posts as well as classifieds looking to get a good judge of the cost for these snakes, i realize that normals are going to cost the least and that different morphs are going to cost higher amounts. I like being a well educated consumer and quite frankly im "frugal" putting it nicely). I know that you pay for quality but that the cost depends on the market and breeder involved as well as their costs, but i do not want to get taken advantage of.

Case in point some one selling a siamese seal point ball or something like that ( i know thats goofy but you know what i mean some morph that i havent heard of) and selling it for a huge amount of money but its really just a normal or somethign that would never sell for the price they are asking.

I know when im looking for a snake i should make an appointment a week or so before hand with the breeder so my visit will be on time for a schedualed feeding so that i can prove visually that the snake is eating well. Are there any other things that i should look for? Like scars or signs of sickness ?

Well speaking for myself, I sell lone males for $45 each, or pairs for $100. I know this is not cheap, but since I breed these animals, and can tell you everything about the animals from birth, I think it is a fair price. The way I see it, you can buy a pair for $30, some times cheaper but you have no idea of where the snakes come from, their eating habits, their parents, ect. One thing I always try to get from a breeder is a feeding chart. This shows how well the snake has been eating, and what kind of schedule the snake has been on. Just buy from someone reputable who breeds the animals themselves, and you should have no problems.

Very good points. Sometimes, those buying normals are just getting into Ball Pythons. Though their knowledge of other reptiles may be exceptional, they may not have all the skills or experience with Ball Pythons as they would like. This is where it is crucial to pick the right breeder. You want a breeder who provides service after the sale. A big name does not guarantee this, nor does it exclude it. But it's important to look around and ask questions.

Remember that sick feeling you had when your first BP went off-feed? I do. Unfortunately, that was long ago and I didn't have access to anyone for help. Sure would have been nice.

Well im actually trying to set up a somewhat christmas gift. I know that it will be hard to surprise my fiance when i have to hide a 30 gallon tank or a large container depending on what i come up with *G*.. im thinking more allong the lines of snitching my fiances tools and building an enclosure out of wood, plywood and lanolium to make it easy clean up i dont know if it would work im still pondering

Hes had Balls in the past about 4 i think. Two were from the pet store . He had bought one it passed on from a respiratory infection. the second he took to the vet right after getting it and she said it also had resp infection and had regurgitated and would be dead with in a few days and that he should kae it back. By the next morning it was dead. One died in a house fire and the other was sild by a snake sitting friend. So he hasn't had good luck since the two that he had for years were in exelent health. He would really love a burmese but the shear size is a worry to me.

I would love to get him a good quiality beautiful snake. That would be of a nice price range. I have looked at the pictures here and in the gallory and i find that i personally think that teh prettiest snakes are the normal, caramel, chocolate, burgandy and cinnamon. I like the redish and brown colors in them they look rich and lushish.

the price of 100 for a pair isnt that bad concidering that at the pet store in town balls are going for about 60-80 bucks a peice and they are no bigger then 20inches max. And i have only seem one in a long time that was garanteed.
