Hey everyone,
I recently bought a pair of king snakes from a reptile show in Atlanta. One of them is an albino striped cal.(male) and the other is a banded cal. (female). They are both juveniles right now, but i am hoping to breed them in the future. assuming my female does not have the recessive albino gene, what kind of offspring would they produce? i do not know much about king snake genetics, this will be my first attempt to breed them. any help would be great. thanks

Without knowing their linage, its hard to say. There are so many morphs they could be het for, not just albinism.

IT will be like christmas, you won't know until they hatch.

Most likely you will get a mixture of banded, striped and some aberrant patterns. That is typical anyway.

As others have said as far as pattern goes you will get some banded some striped and some aberrant. As far as morphs go wouthout knowing their background anything that they are both het for will have a chance of being in the clutch. Now cause you know the one is albino if the other one is not het for albino there will be no albinos in the clutch but all of the clutch will be het for albino, if the other is het for albino 25% of the clutch will be albino and the rest of the clutch will have a 66% chance of being het for albino, hence the term 66% possible het. Hope this helps!

If you breed an albino to a het albino......statistically speaking 50% will be albinos and all the others will be het albino.

Haha thanks I guess I was mis understood .... does that same thing go for all recessive genes?

If you breed het to het then 25% of the clutch should be albino.

But breeding an albino to a het should give you 50% albinos.

Statistically speaking. I bred a het x het and used to get about 75% albinos from the clutches and then twice with those same parents they had large clutches with NO albinos.

And a snake is either 100% het or it isn't het. Only through breeding can it be proven.
