Question about ingesting aspen..

Finnigan Oct 07, 2003 08:45 AM

Hello.

As gross as it sounds, imagine seeing it:

My corn must've been extremely hungry ... she grabbed the prey and constricted it so hard that it burst open.

The guts and stuff were (obviously) moist and gooey, and some aspen shreds got stuck to it.

The corn ate the rat, guts and aspen and all and (I'm sure) ingested at least a few pieces of aspen.

What are your thoughts on this? Does she need a vet? Is this a terrible thing?

Thanks,

Joel

How big is this snake?
If it was an adult or say, bigger than 18" I would worry a lot less than if it is a baby. Smaller digestive tracts block up easier. How much aspen? May want to consider feeding somewhere else, without particulate substrate.
Look for poop.....not obstructed if it is still pooping. And be sure temps are good for thorough digestion.

i would never feed on a loose substrate. b/c of the chances it has of ingesting the substrate

I'd keep an eye on her, but it's probably not that serious if it's only a couple slivers. I mean, my corns have passed nearly whole rat tails before.

Why risk killing your snake?Do you have the money for surgery if it does get impacted?Every care sheet for corns warns against it.JUST SAY NO.....Paul..
