Hoping for Something Interesting Here

scaledverts Apr 20, 2013 11:59 PM

Hello,

Here's a picture of one of my pairs of Cal kings breeding. I'm hoping for some interesting babies out of this female (most of which will likely be held back). As you might be able to see on the female (foreground), the male's a biter haha. I've seen multiple locks and she looks nice and plump, so I think he has gotten the job done so far.

Cheers,

Kyle

Hello Mike,

Yes, I suspect that the male is a mosaic lavender. He was not sold to me as such but his pattern suggests to me that he is a mosaic. This year's pairing should shed some light on it! I wanted to breed him last year after I got him but there were some issues regarding weird blisters all over his body within 3-4 days or so of his arrival here so he has been in quarantine this whole time.

The lavender is looking real nice now. How long did it take for those blisters to go away?

Hey Ross,

It took quite a few sheds (3-4 months total). I also hit him with a couple rounds of antibiotics and some iodine soaks back when I first posted the pictures of him. Here is the link to the original pictures etc for those that don't know about his story (http://forums.kingsnake.com/view.php?id=1991819,1991819).

I THINK it was water blisters or something similar. I haven't seen any of the spots in about 4 months now.

Thanks, Kyle. Good to see you stuck with it and he made it out alright. Are there any scars from the blisters?

Glad to hear he recovered from the blisters, definitely looks mosaic, I actually had a 2.1 group of mosaic het lavs about 6 years ago but sold the project off before they were even full grown. Guess we'll see if he's Mosaic in a couple months.

Hey Kerby,

Yes, the female is a proven blizard and the male is a lavender. Triple hets will be nice to throw together in a few years in terms of what pops out of them.

I did that awhile back and kept some of the triple hets (albino, lavender, hypermelanistic). When breeding the triple hets back to each other they popped out albinos, lavenders, hypermelanistics, blizzards, and a purple passion. I'm sure I popped out some displaying both albino and lavender but could not tell.

And sometimes the triple hets will not be normal looking but will look "hypoish, although they are not.

Good luck with the project and post pictures when they hatch.

Yeah, I remember seeing the babies out of that breeding you did. I'm hoping that 50% of these display the mosaic gene too. Only time will tell.

Is that male a mosaic? He's very cool looking.

Hello Dennis,

I think he is a mosaic, but I'm not totally sure yet. He wasn't sold to me as a mosaic but he displays the mosaic trait so I'm hopeful he will produce some mosaics in this clutch.
