Found hiding in my flower garden (or what's left of my flower garden)

It is about 6 inches long.

But if you can describe it or show the picture, we'll get quick identification for you.
It may be a brown snake (Storeria dekayi), however.

I thought it might be a brown snake for the fact they are pretty common and something that small leads towards a brown snake. It is, after seeing the picture, a garter snake. Either eastern garter (Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis) or Maritime garter (T.s.pallidula).

Not sure about the brown snake.
Snake seems more splotchy than the brown snakes in the pics I looked at, though I realize they can change as they mature.
I'm still new at identifying snakes, but I'll give it a try and hope someone confirms or corrects. 
I believe it's an Eastern Garter.
