These are the newest pics of Al and Peg. We moved into a new house where I can use my bedroom patio for their housing. They were starting to drive me crazy in their trough...they would jump and bang their heads on the top everyday...constant clawing at the metal...I couldn't figure out what was wrong. They seem to like it out here, but I need to make some modifications. Every now and then they seem to get nutty and will try anything to escape. Just this Sunday they were banging on my sliding glass door and climbing up the screen door only to drop 6 feet to the ground...why are they doing this?...their cage is humongous now...plenty of food...both artificial and natural basking spots...natural sunlight...burrowable substrate. Any thoughts.

It Simple, their Tegus, they have to explore! Cute Monitor too.

Maybe it's their inquisitive nature??? They like getting into their environment with all their senses. I suspect that my tegus know far more about me and my environment than I know about them. Maybe they get bored easily and need "toys" like birds require.
Maybe I've opened a can of worms here. And no, I don't have anything to show and tell. My tegus don't seem to care at all if I move things around or scratch around in the substrate. Be careful doing this fingers must look like pinkies to them. A tegu jungle gym might be a good idea???
