30 days later and more EGGS!!!!!!

RG May 22, 2013 08:41 AM

My female Axanthic was at it again yesterday. Exactly 30 days later she was back laying more eggs!

This second clutch was larger and looks better than the first one.

The first was 9 (all looked good) but I'm down to 6.

The second clutch was 14 (one obvious slug) and maybe 13 good eggs...time will tell.

Here are a few shots I took with the phone, I've been lazy since my phone takes decent pics for these type of shots.

She had laid 7 at this point(I thought she was done):

But later that day I found 7 more, uncovering the eggs was fun!

My fingers and toes are crossed for an Amel or an Amel Conda!!!

Did you means to say Axanthic rather than Amel? I got a little confused there.

Either way, congrats to you Rusty! I hope you get what you're aiming for.

Fantastic! the questions I have are: was she with a male after laying the first clutch, and was there another pre-lay shed before this last egg laying? thanks

RG May 23, 2013 03:09 PM

Was she with a male after laying the first clutch.

Yes, found them mating 4 days after she laid her first clutch.

Was there another pre-lay shed before this last egg laying?

Yes, she laid about 9 days after her prelay shed, for both clutches.

I would also like to add that the female never stopped eating. She ate right before laying!

These Hogs are super different!

Sorry, I should have listed the pairing.

Male: Conda 50% Het Amel

Neonate pic:

Female: Axanthic 66% Het Amel

Neonate pic:

So Het Axanthics are 100% certain.

Condas Het Axanthic are probable.

Amels Het Axanthic are a wish.

Amel Condas Het Axanthic are a pipe dream!

And who knows what else might pop out, this the female's first and second clutch ever. The male was proven last year, but his genetics are still unanswered.

:D

Thanks for clearing that up Rusty, now it all makes sense. Sounds like an awesome pairing, really hope those hets prove out for you!

Gratz!!! Seems like I'll only have corn cluctches this year.

RG May 24, 2013 09:02 AM

Sorry you haven't had better luck.

AWESOME BUDDY! Great looking pair, and I see some sweet neonates in your future my friend!

BTW, if that's not soil taken DIRECTLY from where your snakes originated in the wild decades ago,...you're doing it ALL WROOOONG!!!!!. Remember, it's about the ANIMALS!!

You crack me up man!

It does look like soil, but it's just peat moss. These Hogs like to dig so the sphagnum isn't the best option for them in my opinion.

Gregg_M_Madden May 25, 2013 12:05 PM

I am with you on that Rusty. I do not understand why people use sphagnum. Sorry if that offends anyone. LOL.

Congrats on the double dude. That's what these hogs do. I have over 80 eggs incubating and I have not even gotten my double clutches yet. Plus I have 5 females who are just about to lay their first clutches. Gotta buy more hatchling racks. LOL.

Congrats again bro. Good to see that you are having good results.

RG May 28, 2013 07:52 PM

Thanks, I think these two clutches are all I'll have this year with my Hogs, which is just fine with me!

Maybe I can get them to breed later in the year, I know others have had late season clutches, just have to figure out what they do for success.
