I just go for what's affordable. Using the shredded sphagnum this year (which is like the consistency of the coco fiber) and liking it so far.

I use coco fiber since it's the cheapest for me. I have lots of hydroponic stores around and I can find big blocks of it for about $10 if I buy 2. It lasts me a while too, I usually expand it, then set it out to dry, mix it with sand (1.1 ratio by weight, Holds moisture better when it's in the lay box) and store it in containers. I use if for all my snakes nesting material.
