Feeding rabbits to Borneo Short tail

SalS May 27, 2003 03:11 PM

Does anyone feed rabbits to thier borneo short tail python. Mine is getting to the point where large rats don't do much anymore and I'm thinking about stepping up to rabbits. If you do feed rabbits, where do you get them? How do you euthanize a rabbit? BTW the snake is 5' and weighs close to 20 lbs.

My male Borneo is a tad bit longer than yours, and can handle a 3 lb rabbit fairly easily. Be careful though... Your Borneo will pack on weight even faster on a rabbit diet. You don't want him getting overweight on you. If you decide to go with rabbits, cut back your feeding intervals slightly.

I've purchased rabbits from Rodent Pro, but shipping will kill their good prices. I've since switched to a local rabbit breeder who sells them to me for $1/lb. Very cheap food source. The breeder also euthanizes them for me, using Co2. Dry ice will also do the job, if you can only get live rabbits.

The more contraversial way to kill rabbits is to simple grab them with both hands by the neck, and give 'em a quick jerk.
