Vermiculite from incub. can B re-used?

AmazonikaMX Jun 19, 2013 11:27 AM

So what do you do guys with vermiculite after use?

I was thinking if it can be used again, i mean... its very cheap, and using it again may cause an increase of fungus probability... I dont know! could be a good idea to use it again for the same thing or just dont.

Thanks!

Not if the hatchling "pipped" the eggs while on it! Egg contents will seap in and start to decay!

Corey Woods posted a thread on here a few yrs ago i believe regarding his reuse of incubation medium, ever since ive been reusing mine and not aware of any issues(knock on wood)...I scoop any clumped up medium from egg fluid and replace with new vermiculite as needed...I have enough egg boxes that i rarely have to reuse the same medium in the same hatching season but have in a few occasions...Usually just re-wet the next season and go as usual...I reused the same medium for 3 seasons then just dumped in our flower beds and cleaned the bins out well then replaced w/ fresh vermiculite... This is how ive done it here, not saying itll work elsewhere...GL w/ whatever u decide!!!

why not....by the time you use it again next year the gooky oozy gunk (yolk etc) will have all rotted away....and you are left with vermic....which is basically a rock that is cooked and blown up?.....

.....I used it over and over again.......years.....and yes I tried to keep most of the gunk out of it to begin with......(hand scoop out the lumps)...

Just go and clean them outside. You spray water on it and let it dry a few days in the sun.

Should be good to go !

Be sure you don't let fly and others stuff go in to lay eggs. You wouldn't want to incubate theses lol

Vermiculite serves no purpose in the incubation process.
