help anery identification

olive_oil Jun 27, 2013 03:57 PM

So I have a litter of boas, think some are anery. I brought them to a couple different local boa "experts" and have gotten a different response from each about what I have. One says they are, they are lacking the red and are chocolate tails only having brown in them, other guy says not, anery has to be lacking red and yellow/brown making them purely black and grey. Info online has only mentioned lacking in red, though the description on kingsnake.com says there are two variations, silver and brownish. Please help me to understand better so I know what I have and I'm not misrepresenting my boas to anyone. Thanks

A safe rule of thumb to follow when identifying a boa is simply this:

"If you know what the genetics are (which can only be determined by knowing the genetics of the parents), then you can rightfully call it whatever those genetics are. However, if you don't know what the parents were, then you're best off just calling it what it is, an awesome boa!"

Many snakes can appear to be something they're not.

Best of luck,

I can't see the pic. Send it to me.

I had two litters a couple of months ago, both with anerys in them.

I couldn't identify them right away & I've been doing this for
over 12 years now. I've bred anerys before too.

After they shed it should be clear which are the anerys.

I've had some that stuck out as soon as they were born but that's
not always the case.
