ballfreak Jul 19, 2013 12:33 PM

i recently had a clutch of bp's and they just shed. i hate to go and buy mice because all i feed my adults are rats and so i have plenty on hand. i want to strictly feed my hatchlings rat pups when about how many tries should i do before giving up and giving into to feeding mice? has anyone had success just feeding babies rats? thank you!

i am new to king snake but have been breeding ball pythons on and off for a few years now as a hobby so this is just in my opinion and experience and this will very from breeder to breeder. first make sure all are in separate bins. second only attempt feeding once a week to not stress them out. most times they will take after about 2 weeks but i wouldn't go any more that 3-4 weeks before offering a mouse. they can survive on that yolk sack for about 2-3 months but at that length it's usually too late. hope this helps.

Thanks for replying to my post as you can see no one else has. I'm taking you advice and today one out of 5 of them ate a rat fuzzy. One other one had tried held the rat but than let go so I will try once a week and see what happens. Thanks for your help!
