Hey, need advice on egg in the incubator

nipro_style Aug 02, 2013 04:06 AM

My albino female layid 2 eggs, one went bad and the other one is a small boob egg. It's been 56 days that the egg is in the incubator and I still see veins but the sanke inside looks small.
What do u recommend? Should I wait to let it hatch?
Can it be that the snake develops real slow and need more than 60 days to hatch?
Thanks in advance!

Boob eggs are gonna have smaller snakes inside. As long as your temps were at least 88, you should be fine to cut.

I would wait a few more days, (60) and then cut a small slit to help him exit. Because of the boob, he may be a little underdeveloped. Good luck.

all the more reason to leave him be to fully absorb every bit of yolk / nutrition that he can.

I usually wait until 2 pip. But with only one egg and its a boob egg I would cut for the safety of the snake. It's better then being to late and losing a hatchling to a tangled umbilical cord. Its happened to me.

I've just figure it out that the humidity was too high and the egg didn't dimple. Does it have any effect on the development of the egg or it's still good to cut?

As long as your temps were consistent and at least 88 you'll be fine. High humidity wouldn't slow down the development of the snake. I saw a video from mike wilbanks he said he's cut up to 12 days before the clutch was due, I also had a friend mix up clutch cards and accidently cut 20 days early and they all survived. I've cut at day 52 a bunch of times and never lost a baby. I'm sure in the wild some snakes never make it out of the egg, I won't let that happen in my incubator.

the temps in the incubator are 89F, but when i candle the egg, i see a snake moving but the snake is only on the 1/4 of the egg itself. Is it normal?

I only candle my eggs once when they are first laid. I like to just let them be. With the occasional wipe down of the lid. I think your good to go. I incubate at 89 also and almost all of my eggs pip between 56-58 days. You said the eggs are from an albino, what was pappa?

I'll wait till tomorrow. If it wont hatch, i'll just make a tiny cut to see if it is OK or undeveloped. Cross your fingers for me!

I did a little slice in the egg, it doesnt look developed.
I let it be for more time in the incubator/
the snake seems alive though...
