Diagnosis from vet - Any opinions?

spasmolytic Oct 07, 2003 03:54 PM

I got my skinny girl who has been hovering around 18-19 grams since I got her over a month ago to the vet today. Tried getting fecals to the vet before but was unsucessful. Well when he picked her up to look at her she shot poop all over him and the room. The poop has been very runny, and we agreed probably from the fact she has been refusing everything except waxworms. He said he saw a lot of fat (waxworms) and an abnormally high amount of bacteria. He said the bacteria is probably increased but the source of fat to feed on in the waxworms. He suggest just stopping the waxworms and hopefully she will get hungry enough to eat mealworms. He prescribed a combo of Amoxi/Baytril to give her a drop of twice a day.

Also - I am still concerned about a bulge just north of her vent that I have never seen on a gecko before. He said he wasn't sure, but didn't appear to be a problem. But when she shot the poop at him, it was with so much force her insides came out! A "bubble" of tissue came out of her, which he sort of nudged back inside of her. Her poop also has a VERY strong smell, sort of musky.

Any second opinions or advice?? Thanks...

Your leo got ahernea, I think that is how it is spelled, so just keep giving the antibiotics and it should be fine, but if the "bubble" comes out again you need to go the vet because a bacterial infection on the intestines can be deadly.
