Viper boa always in water bowl

TSUSnakeGuy Aug 02, 2013 06:54 PM

I bought a viper boa a couple months back at a show. The problem I am having now is that she has only eaten once and that was a live rat pink and she also is always in her water bowl. Can anyone give me some advice. I have tons of other snakes but this is my first viper boa. I appreciate any help.

What's the set-up like that you have for her? Do you have adequate hides and substrate?

My guess with constantly being in the water, if it is excessive, would be either mites or temps are too high. I can only guess though without knowing the temps you have and without you checking specifically for mites.

I have her in a shoebox rack. On aspen with a dish she can lay in and a temp around 88-90

Drop the temps and add a hide for her. Temps should be around 84-85. If there is room for a small hot spot at 88 that's good, but if not, drop the temps to 85. Most Candoia will begin to regurgitate at the higher end of the spectrum. Definitely provide a hide as well, C. aspera need security on the ground.
