Vacation into Canada with tortoises

cod6545 Oct 07, 2003 05:03 PM

Hey- every summer I drive into Ontario, Canada to visit family. This summer, I need to take 1.1 Indian Star Tortoises, 1.1 Cherryhead Tortoises, and 0.0.2 Redfoot Tortoises. What do I need to get them across the border? What if I need to fly this year? Should I even tell Border Patrol I have them? Thanks a lot. Brooks

In order to take them with you you will need to obtain CITES documents for them and will have to go through the export process and then the Import process when you come back into the US. You can contact USFW for all the information you will need to accomplish this. You can get their contact information in another recent post regarding taking animals to Canada from the US. You must do the legal process to take them as if you do not you can be subject to fines and 5 years in prison for illegal exportation/importation.
