Someone asked about fattening tails?

AlbinoLeo Oct 07, 2003 05:26 PM

I feed my leo's a little differently then most. Their dish is full with large mealworms 24/7. I replenish their mealies if the mealies in the dish are not active. I find my geckos pick up on the movement in the tank very quickly and feed well that way. All of my adult females are over 70 grams, with one at 103.6 grams. This Patt female is 72 grams, but she is only about 6 inches long, so very thick. She is in a 30 gal. long tank, so she gets plenty of excercise, and I put her feeding dish on the far end of tank to make her work for her food . Hope this helps.

WOW! thats one fat tail...
Well you said you had the bole filled with super mealworms 24/7.. Do you have your own breeding group of mealies, or do you buy them?

Also I'm gonna get some waxworms.. because I've only been feeding crickets.. And this one female I have, doenst seem to get any fatter. I even feed her more then the others.. but nothing is happening, at one point i was feeding her like 12 crickets every night.. and the other ones like 9, but nothing >_>. She seems healthy and all, but I would love to see a tail like that on her.

Actually I dont feed supers or Giants - just large mealworms.

I rarely feed waxies either - I think the trick is to make sure if you feed mealies, they are active in the feeder dish.

Thanks for the compliment though - here's a picture of other females I have

Just keeping a bowl of regular mealworms in the tank all the time will do the trick. I notice fatter tails on my leos within days.
