Maximum clutch size for mexicana ssp.?

Aaron Aug 18, 2013 08:05 PM

What are your maximum clutch sizes for mex mex, thayeri and greeri?

For me, to the best of my recollection:
mex mex 6
thayeri 13
greeri 7

In particular I'm curious if anybody has ever gotten double digits from a single clutch of greeri? I heard of plenty of thayeri laying double digits and I think I've heard of a few double digit mex mex clutches but I have never heard of a greeri laying that many eggs in one clutch.

Hi!

My best result with greeris was a clutch of 9 eggs ( 9 hatchlings) and a thayeri clutch of 15 (15 hatchlings).
The largest thayeri clutch was 16 but only 9 hatched.

mex mex 11

thayeri 15, but I had a clutch of 18 that were all bad. Typical big clutch is 12 or 13 for full grown, healthy adults.

ruthveni 9, it seems the amealco line throws larger clutches than the tapalpa in my experience

alterna 12 from generics. Locality animals typically around 8.

greeri ZERO...lol

The only ones that have doubled for me are thayeri and mex mex.

Thanks guys and I hope more chime in. I find this interesting because despite the visual similarities in color and pattern, I think there are some significant differences in other things.

For example mex mex and greeri females seem to be smaller than males but with thayeri males and females are about the same, sometimes females are even bigger than males. Mex mex seem to be stockier with a more squarish body; greeri a more slender neck and more tapered body. I also wonder if thayeri may hybridize with alterna in the northern ranges. Very few Mexican alterna pictures are available but some of them look alot like thayeri.
