Melanistic Leonis "thayeri" and PH Sibs

Jlassiter Sep 02, 2013 10:48 PM

I bred my definite het for melanistism male to an unknown het and got a melanistic this year, But the possible het on top of the other with the squarish high saddles and gray/green ground color is a freakin knockout IMHO......

Those are really nice. If you keep those it will be interesting to find out what they produce.

Yes, they can get overwhelming. Especially the stubborn starters!

100 thayeri hatchlings??? Or 100 total of all snakes?

Someday I would love to produce 100 alterna hatchlings in one year.

Oh yea, and that square saddled one is really cool!

Hi Aaron, Do you have Denny Millers, alterna book? he mentions me in there, at the time I was producing a couple hundred a year. That was back in the seventies.

Its really nice to see folks still in love with such a wonderful snake. There is no other snake like them.

Recently a friend (old time alterna freek) gave me a pair, only it turned out to be a pair of males. A beautiful blairs lite phase and a beautiful blairs, dark phase. Classic normal.

Now I need a couple of females to go along with them.

My friend lived and hunted big bend area with Ricky Green, or at least those are the stories I heard, hahahahahahahahaha.

One day, I will return. Best wishes

No I don't have the Denny Miller book. I would sure like to have it but I did read something by him online. I have the Vivarium(s) in which you were featured and some SDHS Newsletters and IHS Symposiums.

I've met Ricky Green a few times in Tx. Was there when he saw two alterna in one night in the Christmas. Or maybe it was back to back nights... good times.

There is the alterna breeder that goes to the Tucson show, he had stacks of Dennys books. If he still does, I will get one for you.

I also did some field work with Bill Garskas Mexicana paper.
Once I found two alternas in one night in the Christmas Mts.

I met up with that park Ranger that liked alterna and never found one. We went to dinner at luna vista, that restaurant in the middle of those two hills. After dinner, I found one on each hill. Hmmmmmmmmm the ranger was mad at me. I can't remember his name. Those were fun days. Best wishes

Thanks! Would love to have it.

I'm surprised you don't have several hundred after seeing so many pictures of your collection!
