Dos ur online persona differ from real

Bluerosy Sep 04, 2013 02:10 PM

Does your online persona differ from real life?

Maybe persona is the wrong way to put it since it may implies you don't act yourself online. What I mean is that are you more direct or an SSshole online that in real life? Or maybe it's the opposite?

My own take is that I'm equally nice online as in person, but if I get pissed off, I'm more of an arsehole in person. Not sure how others find me.

Did you answer your own question--how do you see yourself?

excellent! (I started to say, "there you go, trying to start an argument again," but your answer was to clever for me to stoop to that.

rtdunham Sep 04, 2013 04:45 PM

I try to be the same. I hope I'm the same.

Boring answer. Maybe that says something about me!

My feeling is, online is a language of its own, and how a person is perceived is based on a new modern language.

As an older person. I did not grow up on the internet and consider it a necessary evil. Which means, I am worse at this then I am at attempting English.(I grew up speaking reptile and its my first language)

As the internet is faceless, its non-personal. Your talking to a post, not a person and a audience. which means, what you say will be taken in many different ways.

In person, I am passionate and funny, Funny takes a totally different meaning over the internet. Comics would not be funny if you did not see them. At least most.

In the case of the internet. anybody can be anybody, which is different then in real life. With that in mind, it starts with a lack of trust. There are no eyes to look into. or hands to shake. Best wishes

Interesting question! I am much more articulate and erudite on the Internet than in real life.

Erudite? Sounds like you need some deodorant or maybe I don't know what "erudite" means.

Anonymity is over-rated. I suspect most of the disagreements that occur on the forum would never take place in person. A lot of the cues we pick up in personal conversation come from gestures, hand motion, raised eyebrows, sarcasm, irony, etc. This is all lost online.

Depends on what i'm doing online...

in real life i can usually be found at work (military), in the gym, or playing drums. All things i take very seriously, pride myself on, and can be somewhat cocky/jerkish about.

so when i'm on a drumming or bodybuilding forum i might be cocky and very matter of fact when communicating which can make me appear as quite the asshole.

when i'm on a reptile/snake forum I think i'm much more humble and nice because i know many other folks know way more than I, so it's best to keep my mouth shut and try and learn something.

when I use to have facebook before i shut it down due to being a radicle conspiracy theorist, i was quite goofy and silly and never really cared about anything that went on in that format.

upon reading this, i might be a schizophrenic, because apparently i have multiple personalities.

One of the things that's nice about online is that you can expound fully upon a thought without being interrupted. I generally keep things toned down and try to be more formal online. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share good kind sir, have a fluffy day!
