Wax worm?

dubumb Oct 07, 2003 07:48 PM

Hi,

I have 2 leopards that i am trying to get to eat with not much luck... I've slightly been spoon feeding them a baby food mixture and i try to hand feed them crickets or mealworms with no luck. This has been going on for about a week and they are losing noticable weight.

I've seen people say that they have given their leos wax worms and they love them, but become 'addicted' to them. Why are wax worms bad for leos and do you think it would be a good idea to try to get these guys to eat with these worms?

Any other ideas?

Would be like feeding your four year old a box of twinkies 3 times a day. Sure they would eat them, but other then sugar and fat, they wouldn't get much nutrition from them. In the end you would wind up with a big fat, unhealthy four year old......

BUT, if your leo's not eating, it will die. Waxies are, supposedly, tasty. They are also very easy to digest & are recommended for sick leos. Don't fear feeding wax worms, it's not a problem for a short time & is certainly better than nothing!

you shouldnt fear wax worms...when i got my 2 babies they were small and there tails werent very fat so every other feeding i mixed waxes with mealies and i did this for almost a month giving them about 3 each then i just stopped giving them wax worms and its like they never noticed, now thier both have very big bodies and tails and eat mealies like monsters and every now and then a few crickets and i use reptocal and reptivite vitamins for them...so try wax worms cause its better than them starving and mix them with mealies when his eating habbit picks up
