Constipated boa

majinchip Sep 21, 2013 09:49 AM

I have a male albino boa about 3.5' who is constipated I believe. bout a week ago I noticed a large lump btwn stomach and vent. gave him daily baths but nothing. got worried, took him to the vet who did an x-ray & ultrasound. the mass had no bones and he said it's not a tumor. has no gas building up and we can see feces backing up behind. we have been giving him baths 2x's a day since. the vet thinks that it probably will work it's way out. he mentioned something about putting a small amount of mineral oil down his throat?
has anyone had this problem? any suggestions? I can post pics if that helps at all........don't have the x-rays or ultrasound pix tho.

thanks,

chip

you could put mineral oil in the other end also I think....

....exercise and the baths should work...

either no food till it comes out or feed it to push it out...that is the question.....

I agree with Yohe, exercise and baths.

I had a young boa with a lump like that. One day it passed - it was a wadded up paper towel! Owner fed him a thawed rodent on a paper towel just before I got the boa. Snake was just fine.

I had this problem with one of my best albinos. I tried the baths, the soakings and all that fun stuff and nothing helped. I brought her to a vet and he tried enemas and unfortunately nothing helped and she passed. She got so backed up I think it poisoned her. I would recommend getting it to a good reptile vet sooner then later. If I had gotten her there earlier who knows. Best of luck and hopefully your results are better then mine.
