WLOX (Biloxi, Mississippi) 18 September 13 Snake swaps cage for tissue box (Kara Mattingly)
Evansville, IN: A Red Rat Snake slithered out of its cage overnight at Evansville's Wessleman Woods Nature Center. Where it ended up is nothing to sneeze at.
Workers say the snake was left in a plastic box at the front of the nature center overnight. When they checked on it Wednesday morning, it was missing.
After a quick search, workers at the center were surprised to find the non-venomous snake all curled up inside a tissue box.
"She was in my office actually, and I thought she would be fine because she has been in the box for a while. That's where she usually stays," said Gena Garrett, the education program coordinator. "I did not expect that she would leave, so I didn't think to check on her this morning when I came in. I went to get a tissue and I was quite surprised."
Workers say the snake had recently been put on a diet, leaving them to think it might have escaped to look for a midnight snack.
