With pine U get a redish belly, with flaking/peeling up scales, and petichia (red dots from irritated skin/capilaries)under other scales
I have seen this on a snake that was on it only 2 days
Aspen is a much more benign substrate, but I much prefer the Cypress for my daughters snake, dispite the price.
it keep the humididty just fine
spray less water, get less humididty, spray more water for more
the water does not leach unless U SOAK it, and U can actually get it fairly wet under one hide for a humid hide during shed (I toss the substrate with some water, so each piece is damp, then pile up under the larger of the 2 hides on the hot end. By the time shed is over, the substrate has dried out, then she poops, and we change the substrate)
Good luck on finding exactly what you want and need for your snake, glad to see U looking into options before doing them
