Motleys and Super Motleys

poetichusky Oct 01, 2013 09:46 PM

Hi All,

I recently got interested in Motleys and saw the Super Motleys and thought, wow I want to breed that. But then I quickly found out all of the problems that Super Motleys have and have changed my mind about that. Anyhow, I was wondering if there are also problems with regular Motleys? I was thinking about buying a Motley het Albino to breed with my Sunglow, but I don't want a regular Motley if it's going to have problems and pass on problems.

Thanks,

I've owned bred and produced many motleys and haven't had any problems.

The super form is the one that seems to be problematic. Lately, people have been producing super motleys again (now that they are more outcrossed than before) to see if it's actually a lethal gene or just a result of inbreeding. It seems that there are less problems with albinos than in the beginning as they’ve been outcrossed more. YMMV

I know of a couple 4 year old super albino motleys that are going to try to breed this year. It does seam like out crossing is the key. Before the supers wouldn't make it past a couple years old.
Lets hope. I think they are very cool

I saw a 7 year old super motley make on Saturday at the Sacramento reptile show. It was owned by Alex B. of Boa Republic. It was part CA and part Columbian. He believes that the outcrossing had something todo with its vitality. He has never attempted to breed it though due to not wanting to put undue stress on it.
