b&w colombian and red tegu

Finch777 Oct 07, 2003 08:52 PM

hey im thinking about getting a tegu, which would be a better species as far as temperament and adult size between a black and white colombian and a red tegu. I dont think i can really house something thats much bigger than 4 feet. but i also dont want to spend too much more than a hundred dollars on the animal, i found baby colombians for 55 and baby reds for 110. thanx for your help

Here's the info:

Argenitne Black & White: 4.5 feet plus, 15 lbs =/-, very tame/great temperment. I have one and love him.

Red: Just a bit smaller than above. Also very tame/great tmeperment. I know one and almost got one. I have to fight myself by say, "one tegu is enough!"

Columbians: Smallest of the three here. More in the 3-4 foot range. Reputed to be MUCh less "tamable". I handled many in the pet storeI worked in while in high school and would "tend" to agree.

Any animal can only be tamed with lots of time and effort on your part. Animals are also individuals. You may find nasty reds and tame Columbians.

Price reflects the general tameness. Expect to pay $100-$150 for reds or Argentines. Columbians can be had for much less. See others on this list for their opinions. They may differ.

Hope that helps,

Brian

reds are said to be the most tame tegu there is. culumbian are the meanest next to golden. they can get tame, im jsut saying majority. i own a argintine B&W and a red tegu. the red egu is lazier fatter, and tamer. he reminds me of homer simpsom. (he only moves for food) hes active usaully 4 hours a day. now my B&W is like as i say "a cat on a catnip high" hes awlays running around exploring all day. he never sleeps in his hide box. he just sleeps while basking and at night sometimes moves under his basking spot. hes not as tame. he used to hiss at me all the time, but now hes my buddy and he doesnt get mad at me ever. hes really funny.
