This tiger snake may have felt like being alone but it went the wrong kind of solo and ended up with its head stuck in a softdrink can.
Hobart snake handler and rescuer Justin Kneebone got a call about the snake's sticky predicament from the Hobart City Council on Monday.
The snake had been found at the Waterworks Reserve.
"It was the first tiger I have seen this season and I must say I was intrigued to find out why it would stick its head in a can," Mr Kneebone said yesterday.
The snake was relocated to Ridgeway and set free.
So, what was its mission and what was so enticing about the can to encouraging him to stick his nose in where it did not belong?
Inside the can was a skink.
Whether the skink was alive or dead when the snake decided to pounce is uncertain.
Mr Kneebone said the find was a timely reminder to Tasmanians that snakes were now active and would be until May.
"Once you see a tiger snake you know it really is snake season," Mr Kneebone said.
"Already we have had 18 to 20 callouts in the South in the last month to rescue and relocate snakes," he said.
