What type of Pythons generally tame the easiest? (try that again lol)

Vargas Oct 07, 2003 09:15 PM

Let me try that again...long day...lol
I have been a lizard owner for some years and I am finally going to buy my first snake.
What type of Pythons generally tame the easiest? I was also wondering what are some of the slightly smaller species?
Thanks Steve

I have been a snake owner/breeder for about 10 years now give or take. I think you have to decide on your available area to house this animal. It has been my experience that the burmese pythons tend to be the tamest of the pythons but they are an extremely large breed, they can be great pets the first five years you own them then all of a sudden you have a great pet that is too big for the enclosure and your desperatly seeking a new home for it. If you can house a ten foot animal then a red tailed boa makes a good inexspensive pet that doesnt get too big. I have had most of them(pythons) and it has been my experience that any breed can be tamed with general handling. My suggestion is dont buy a hatchling as they are a little more difficult to care for and stay away from burmese retics and anaconda due to thier size. For a small (3-4 ft) one go with a ball python cheap and easy to care for. But for something a little more exciting and fun to look at try something else and just handle it first to get an idea of it demeanor. Good Luck I hope everything works out for ya!
