RECORD-JOURNAL (Meriden, Connecticut) 18 October 13 Fire damages Southington home, kills snake (Jeff Gebeau)
Southington: A small fire killed a family pet and caused smoke damage throughout a house on Mount Vernon Road Friday afternoon.
Captain Tom Donnelly of the Southington Fire Department said units responded to the call at 1063 Mount Vernon Road at about 2:47 p.m., but the homeowner had largely extinguished the fire by the time they arrived.
Residents were unharmed by the fire, but a pet snake perished during the incident, Donnelly said.
Donnelly said the fire was caused by an aquarium heating pad. The fire was contained within the room of origin, he said.
The fire marshal’s office is continuing to investigate the incident, he said.
