NORTHERN ECHO (Darlington, UK) 01 November 13 Schoolgirl holds reptile fundraiser
An animal-loving teenager who has always favoured less huggable reptiles over furry pets has held a fundraising event for a charity that rescues her favourite creatures.
Hannah Nicholas, 15, from Wensley, near Leyburn, had wanted a snake since she was three years old but her mother, Jane Nicholas, made her wait until she was older, in the hope she would forget about her unusual request.
But as soon as she hit her teens she asked again - and is now the proud owner of a grass snake, royal python, bearded dragon and most recently a dwarf boa constrictor.
Aware that reptile charities do not get as much publicity as those looking after cute cats and dogs, Hannah decided to hold a coffee morning in Wensley Village Hall, which was held on Tuesday.
Hannah said: "Some of my friends are not so keen on my snakes, but most of them think it is interesting - although they are more wary about the boa."
