CHICAGO TRIBUNE (Illinois) 03 November 13 Small alligator startles officials at O'Hare
Authorities at O'Hare International Airport trapped a foot-long alligator that was discovered alive under an escalator at the airport Friday morning, police said.
A maintenance worker made the bizarre discovery in the lowel level of Terminal 3, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Police officers were able to contain the alligator, which is between 12 and 18 inches long, in a trash receptacle, Alfaro said. The unexpected trespasser was later transferred into the care of the Chicago Herpetological Society.
It was not immediately clear how the alligator arrived at the airport.
