Diamond patterned Cals?

Rake Nov 22, 2013 03:54 PM

So I took the wifey to a reptile show last weekend to pick out her very own first snake. She wanted one like my Cal King, her favorite of the three I have, but she didn't want it exactly the same. Her first thought was an Albino, but since neither of us like the bright red eyes I was thinking Lavender.

We ended up finding a black and cream Cal with a diamondback pattern to it, and when she held her it was an instant, "This is the one and I just love her to death already!!!!"

I'd never seen or heard of that pattern, and my searching online has revealed nothing either, so... I thought I'd ask about it.

Really nice king! IMHO that is a hi-white phase. Hi-white's are essentially a selectively bred phase that has over 50% of the pattern in white. The pattern can be quite variable.

So it's just a random pattern on a hi-white Cal? That sucks, I like the idea of Diamondback Cal Kings

Yes it's basicly random but you can sorta get similar babies with selective breeding. Like if you got a nice wide banded to breed to it some of the babies would probably look similar to the diamond pattern and from those you could select the best ones for future breeding. Breeding to a striped one would probably result in much more random appearances.
