lighting

I am still a little bit confused about the lighting situation after reading several care sheets. It soudns like i need a uvb light for basking at one end of the cage to be 110-120f during about 12-14 hours a day. What should i use on the ohter side of the cage if anything at all? What should i use at night and where? THanks for your help. I'm kinda new at this.

ok this is what you need...
~A basking bulb over something that will 'hold heat' such as a slate rock. i use a 150 watt but you might need more or less depending. this should only be on one end of the tank, the warm side.
~ the cool side really will not require anything. the temperature wil be about 80 degrees if the warm side is 90-100
~ at night you will not need anything unless you blast the air conditioning. if you really want to use something you can get a UTH and turn it on about an hour before the lights go out.
~Then you will need a UVB bulb which can be anywhere it doesnt give off much heat if ANY.
i hope this makes it more clear for you.
Good luck

The only thing I'd add is to remember that glass filters out 95% of the beneficial UVB and aluminium screen about 30%. Also UVB flourescent tubes have to be fairly close to the animal in order to be beneficial. Place them within 18 inches of the animal if you can.
