Anole Toe Pads Unsticky

pambear May 27, 2003 04:36 PM

One of my son's anoles seems to have lost the "stickiness" on his front feet when he tries to climb the glass of the enclosure. Any ideas on what could cause this and/or how to fix it?

Thanks

My anole is currently having the same problem it seems that I was getting the glass wet and made it too slippery for the anole

Thanks. I'll have to watch the other anole in the enclosure and see if she's having problems as well.

you might want to check it's toes and make sure that the toes dont have any unshed skin. Some times my knight anoles toes dont shed all the way and I have to carefully pull off the unshed skin, if i dont they have trouble climbing and it can cut of the circulation and the toes can fall off.

Thanks. He seems to be faring better. And he did shed about a week after I posted. He's a skittish little fellow, so checking his toe pads would've been a feat.

The glass could just have mineral build-up or some other stuff on it. My anole couldn't climb the side either until I cleaned the cage.

Check for retained shed skin. If that's the problem, humidity in the tank is too low, and the shed skin will need to be removed promptly or he risks losing his toes. putting him in a deli cup with holes in it, and wet moss, will loosen the skin, which can then CAREFULLY be removed with tweazers. Keep the humidity in the tank over 80%. Get a hygrometer if you aren't sure.

If this is not the problem, he may have some sort of injury...wait until his next shed to see if it heals. Anoles are not fantastic glass climbers anyhow.

Thanks to both skater wolf. The problem has gone away and he only seems to have problems if the glass is wet these days. They are quite amazing animals.
