New Corn Snake Feeding Question

machinegun Oct 07, 2003 11:55 PM

I purchased some frozen pinkies on Sunday 10/05/03 and brought them home and stuck them in my freezer. I am planning on a first feeding tomorrow Wednesday 10/08/03. My questions is can I use these pinkies that are in my freezer or do I have to use them the same day I purchased them and how long can they stay in the freezer of a home refrigerator? Sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but this is my first herp and want to do every I can to ensure a long and healthy life.

Thanks

You can keep a rodent in the freezer for about six monthes.

Also make sure you pack them well. You want to try to minimize as much freezer burn as possible.

There are many ways to do this, the best method is to vacuum seal them, but if you don't already have a vacuum sealer, then that's pretty much out of the question (they are expensive, about $100 or more).

What I do is use a ziplock freezer bag and when I close it I just try to squeeze out as much air as possible. Then I put the bag in a Rubbermaid or Tupperware container to further seal it.

If you ever decide in the future to buy mice in bulk, make sure that who you get them from will vacuum seal them. In a vacuum sealed bag, the rodents will be okay for about 2 years.

Yes, You can use the pinkies in your freezer..They will stay good in the freezer for a long time IF they are sealed up good. My frozen mice in my freezer last me up to six months. I buy them online and they are shipped to me. They a vacumn packed.
Before feeding take what you need out and let them defost for 1 hour. Then soak them in HOT water for about 15 min. Ready to feed !!!!!!! Good luck ...
