Garvid Redtail Continuously Soaking???

jssben Dec 31, 2013 02:42 PM

This is our first breeding, so I'm new with not a lot of info out there regarding this.
One of our gravid Redtails ( Normal Double Het Snow bred to Anery Het Snow) has been soaking for several days. The humidity is 65% and the temperature is 87. Her last "poop" was the week before Christmas. She is both, active in her water bowl but less active when she gets out of the water. She is not bloated, but abnormal for her. Strangely enough, she was very eager to accept food Sunday night, as usual.
I have done the following:
- checked for mites (negative)
- double checked humidity and temp (both correct)
- checked for visible signs of illness or problems (none)

Does anyone (with true knowledge) have any suggestions? I don't want to lose her or the babies. The reason I have not taken her to the vet is because the nearest exotic vet is 2 hours away. I'm sure the ride will stress her out but am headed there on the 2nd if we can't get this figured out.

Thanks in advance for any advice and would greatly appreciate no ugly/negative comments.

Sorry, Gravid....stupid auto-correct!

Does she have access to a 92 degree hot spot? She should. If she can't raise her body temp adequately, she'll be out of sorts.

Although some may act differently something tells me she may not be gravid. I'm assuming you have the water bowl on the opposite side of the heat? Her soaking there and not on or under the heat really doesnt sound like she's gravid? Also you mentioned her taking food which does or doesnt necessarily go along with a pregnant female, however adds to the thought that she may not be. Did you witness her Ovulate?

She has water on both sides of the cage, under radiant heat panel and cool side. She is soaking on warm side, as always. I witnessed courting, mating for over 3 weeks, ovulation, and POS all like clockwork. No doubt she is pregnant.
