Cornsnake feeding

kennny Oct 08, 2003 04:16 AM

Hello everyone, i have recently bought my first cornsnake he's a 4ft male of about 5 years of age. when i bought him the lady told me she was feeding him once a month on four large mice, i keep other small pythons and feed them every 7-10 days but on larger prey (rats). can anyone tell me if this is ok for my corn to leave him for this long then over feed him or should a move him to larger meals (weaner/ small rats) on a more regular basis? any help would be much appreciated!

Kenny

A friend of mine, who breeds snakes, told me he feeds his adult males about every month (actually he said every 21-30 days) and only feeds 1 appropriately sized food item. He said this keeps them at a healthy normal weight, like what you would find in the wild.

So, I wouldn't necessarily feed him more often, just maybe feed him 1 rat, rather than a bunch of mice.

thanks for your response, do you know what the average weight should be for a 4ft adult male and is prey size still decided on by the girth of the body?

many thanks

Kenny
