I just bought this Brooks King Snake. Can anyone tell me what type of Brooks? Is he a High Red?

It is not a pure Florida kingsnake or "brooksi".

That is a Aplachicoloa king or a mixture of a Apalachicola x Florida (goin/meansi x floridana).

It is hard to tell from the closeup pic if it is a pure Aplachicola or a mix of Florida into the Apalachicola.

EIther way it is a nice snake.. but the answer to you question it is not a brooks king and is not a high red brooks.

the below pic has nothing much to do with your snake. So don't let it confuse and ignore it.. I just like posting pics once in a while .

This is a Florida x Goini "hypo".

Thanks for the feedback. I will look this breed up.

The Aplachicola kingsnake used to be called goini. But then they switched it to "meansi". But meansi and goini are one in the same spp.

But your might be a cross between a Florida king and goini (aka meansi).. I don't know without seeing a pic of the entire snake.. but it is one of the other.. either it is pure goini or a cross with floridana.

sorry, but cannot see much from a picture with half a snake either..

also the lighting..are you also using a phone for a camera?

Try taking the snake outside (under over cast skies is best)and get a picture from above with the snake curled up.

Below is one of the first Peanut Butter brooks ever produced:

I agree with Bluerosy, it's definately not a Brook's and it definately is an Appalachicola(aka Goin's, aka meansi) or Appalachicola cross. But it is a very cool snake, plus it has a higher than average amount of red coloration.

yeah, the way the red pattern is I think it is a Florida x Goini.

A picture of the whole snake under overcast or shadow would tell a lot more.

an old pic of Eastern king x Floridana
