I don't mind joining PIJAC, but I want to know if they represent all reptile owners or just breeders, pet stores, importers, etc.

We rescuers have some issues with bad practices and I want to know where PIJAC stands. I want to see the carnivals banned from using reptiles and other animals as prizes and I want to see the pet stores post a salmonella hygiene poster.

One of my arguments for the carnival prize ban is that the average person knows that cooking chicken requires proper hygiene, but that same person does not know that keeping reptiles requires proper hygiene. The salmonella thing doesn't have to be any more than the chicken thing. However, handing out reptiles to children, etc is the direct cause and not the reptile. It is an educational issue and if it is widely known that one be careful of young children around reptiles, the HSUS and PETA won't have much of an agrument.

In the HSUS book against reptile keeping, there are many true issues and we need to be able to address the bad, just as the dog and cat people address puppy mills.

From what I understand they represent all of us. They do have a new shelter membership and owner membership level.

True it makes good points (still havent gotten a copy of this). Any industry has bad people. But just because the people are bad, you do not ban the commodity. That is the reason I still have not been able to bring myself to get a copy of that book. I do however remember reviews of it back when it came out.
