Party Lights for heating crested tanks

Vivarium Oct 08, 2003 11:51 AM

I went to Wally-Mart and found these colored 25-watt incandesecent light bulbs sold as "party lights". I placed one over a 10 gallon hexagone tank and found it made nice temp range: 72 F on the very bottom of the tank, 81 F at the top just below the lamp. Sounds good for a crested. Anyone ever tried it?

A couple weeks ago I found some 60 watt black lights in Wal-mart's halloween section at $1 each for my leopard geckos. This is the best time of the year to get cheap black lights

You are using the lights strictly for heat with crested geckos. The spectrum of the bulb is of no concern since the animals are nocturnal anyway. If you can save of few bucks, go for it .

Above 25 watts. I found there are 'net sources that sell these Chinese red bulbs, but they are VERY poor quality, burn out quick, stay away from those.

I have found that petsuppyliquidator.com has the most competative prices on high quality red spot lights in cases of 10 bulbs. Never had any broken deliveries; packaging is very good. Comes in 50w, 75w, and 100w.
