window tint on aquarium to deter snout rubbing?

keelsey Oct 08, 2003 11:51 AM

hey folks, i was having a problem with the brightness os my enclosure in my room, and since its glass front, i used regular auto window tint on the top few inches and it worked great, i have ordered water dragons and wondered if this snout rubbing occurs, could i try and use tint on the bottom couple of inches to creat a visual barrier for them, and still allow good viewing for us? thanx, keelsey

You can try it, normally they see something that catches their eye outside of the enclosure, or just their reflection.

Depending on the size of the tank, you may have to get a bigger tank. If it's fullsize for one or two adults(mine is 5'x5'x2.5'd), then you may be able to get away w/it. however, dragons, like almost any herp, will try to escape from a too small enclosure. Do not use the tinting as a substitute for a big enough cage. Any animal will snout rub in a small enclosure.
