Baby food for anoles

jbmac Oct 08, 2003 12:16 PM

I heard that it is alright to feed your anoles peach flavoured baby food and that it is a good way to supplement your anole by mixing some vitamin & mineral dusting powder in with it. Is this true? If so how often should i feed my green anole baby food and what quantity should i feed it at a time? Also, how much supplement should i put in it, is there a ratio i can follow or something? Finally, is it ok to feed the anole peach and pear baby food? because there wasn't any peach on its own last time i looked.
Thanks in advance

I sometimes give baby food to my anoles, with a pinch of vitamin, minerals in it (for about 2 tablespoons of food). I don't know if this ratio is correct, but they don't eat a lot of it, so vitamins overdoses should not be a problem. I found out they prefer the peach or apricot flavors (no added sugar). Habitually, my babies love it (and it is great because it helps to keep them hydrated), but as they grow older, they stop to eat it. Hope that helps. I'm not an expert, this is just my personnal experience...

Wow, that's news to me!

I thought that whoever told this person that was thinking of day geckos and not green anoles, since they recommended peach baby food. I've never tried it, though. Meat babyfoods, however, are often recommended to lots of lizards!

I'd be careful about using human vitamins because of the reason you stated, but if you don't do this frequently, overdoing it is unlikely because they can get overdosed more from small and frequent feedings than from large and infrequent ones. I have used human vitamins successfully with leopard geckos, though
