does anyone have any plans for simple and effective snake traps? for terrestrial, tree or water snakes.

You can make a baited trap easy enough. Just make a box out chicken wire where the diameter of the openings are just big enough for the snake you are looking to trap to slip through. them bait it with live animals to large to escape. The snakes can slip in from any angle, and once they've eaten, they can't escape unit they have digested their meal. Water snakes are the easiest as you can have the box half submerged and use brightly colored gold fish as bait. For arboreal species, birds like a large chick or buttonquail will work, and rats for ground dwelling snakes. You could also make a baitless trap from a PVC pipe that is placed in areas that the snake would be investigating. Have the PVC pipe lead into a sack. On the end of the PVC that is in the sack have it cut at a 45-degree angle with a door hinged so that it opens only into the sack. Make sure that the door doesn't cover the PVC entirely so that the snake will be encouraged to push his way in. The sack can be filled bedding from prey animals or the bedding of a female snake during the breeding season.

The baited traps work better if leave them in the location for a week or so before baiting it. A friend of mine said that he had luck using recently hardboiled eggs that were still warm for catching timbers and copperheads, but I haven't tried it. The PVC trap I have used indoors to catch escapees. It works great when set along the edge of a wall.
