Bought a sick snake

Bethrx76 Oct 08, 2003 12:52 PM

I bought a snake that at the time I did not know was sick, I got her home and everything was ok. Two days later she started to cough. So, I took her to a Herp vet he said that it was either a respitory infection or IBD. Needless to say I lost her. When I tooke her back to the place I purchased her thay to me that after 3 days they are not resposible. Basicaly too bad so sad I'm outta luck. I just wanted to know if there where any lasw or if anyone has information to help me. I live in Florida, so I now there are lots of laws when it come to reptiles here I jusst can't sort them all out. So if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance to anyone who can help. Beth (sad in sunshine state)

I doubt that anything can be done. As a business owner, I can tell you that it doesn't pay to guarentee reptiles. It doesn't take much to kill one. Especially frogs, if you ignore them for even a day they can die. So it is hard to be able to give guarentees on reptiles. I just don't sell any animal that is questionable, however most pet stores do not know enough about reptiles or care enough to sell healthy animals. I'm sorry that your experience was a bad one. I imagine in Florida you can find several reputable dealers so that it won't happen again.
